Make Your Own Lip Scrub

Get a quick, cheap fix to dry, flaky lips with these homemade lip scrub recipes!

Everyone’s lips get a bit dry and flaky from time to time. This can happen for many reasons; too much sun, too much cold weather, sensitivity to products applied…

Whatever the reason let’s face it, flaky lips don’t look too nice, especially under lipstick…and who’d want to kiss flaky lips??

Scrubbing lips will not only relieve this dryness and banish those flakes but will also help them to hold more moisture & prevent them from chapping in the future.

Let’s sort out those lips quick!

Lip Scrub Recipes

Mint Lip Scrub

  • 1tsp Sugar
  • 1/2 tsp Olive Oil
  • 1/2 tsp Honey
  • A Drop of Peppermint Essential Oil

Honey Lip Scrub

  • 1tsp Baking Soda
  • 1tsp Honey

Almond Lip Scrub

  • 1tsp Sugar
  • 1tsp Sweet Almond Oil

How To Use

  1. Decide which scrub tickles your fancy, mix it up & rub it on your lips for no more than 1 minute.
  2. Rinse the homemade scrub off your newly soft lips with warm water.
  3. Finish off with a nice thick layer of your favourite moisturising lip balm.

If you want to get more from your homemade lip scrub you can also warm a flannel and apply it to your lips for 5 minutes before scrubbing.

Design Your Own Lip Scrub

If you want to design your own lip scrub; jojoba oil, almond oil & castor oil don’t taste as strong as olive oil. You can experiment with different types of sugars, the ones with coarser grains will exfoliate deeper. You can also flavour your lip scrubs with essences instead of essential oils.

What NOT to Scrub Your Lips With

Many people use salt scrubs for their body and whilst salt is an excellent exfoliator, we wouldn’t suggest you use it on your lips, firstly it tastes horrible & secondly it can be too abrasive and leave your lips irritated.
