Tackling The Organic Beauty Myths

We wanted to lay out the myths surrounding organic products and banish them once and for all.

Are you on the fence in the organic/ non-organic debate?

Do you wonder what all the hype is about and don’t know what to believe?

We wanted to lay out the myths surrounding organic products and banish them once and for all.

Myth One

If a product is labelled organic, it can’t contain chemicals

Firstly a product can be labelled as organic even if it only contains the tiniest amount of organic ingredients. Secondly not all organic products are certified. Therefore, there are many ‘organic’ products out there that contain parabens, phthalates and other nasties. Be sure to buy from a company you trust and take the time to check the ingredients yourself.

The two biggest providers of organic certification marks are the Soil Association and ECOCERT.

Myth Two

‘Organic’ products are no more effective than non-organic products

This is a very generalising statement and the truth of it will depend on the products in question.

Organic ingredients and non-organic ingredients could perform differently because of the presence of chemicals in the latter. The presence of these harmful chemicals may stop the non-organic ingredients performing to their optimum. However, the chemicals may have no effect at all – it will depend on the ingredients in question.

Sometimes it is best to avoid non-organic products for other reasons. Two versions of the same moisturiser may both work equally well at controlling shine but the presence of unknown chemicals in the non-organic version may cause outbreaks on sensitive skin, whilst the organic version does not.

Myth Three

All organic products are expensive

This is simply not true, just as chemical laden products can range from being great value for money to super, super expensive; organic products can too. At Super Smoocher we stock organic products like Skin Blossom & Laidbare which cost very little and luxury ones which cost more like Suki & Madara.

The cost of a product will depend on the cost of the ingredients and production. Sometimes the demands of organic farming can mean, side by side organic ingredients are more costly, but it doesn’t mean all organic products are expensive. Take a look if you don’t believe us.
